Tilt Shift - Miniature Faking / Day 3

Lanzarote BeachAlright, this is the last day of my Skill of the week, It’s been great, and this is my last photo.

I do have some good tips though for any one wanting to try this out for them selves.

  1. Concentrate on an element in your photo - this might not apply to all photos, but I certainly found it useful in all three of mine, once one part of your photo looks pretty fake the rest tends to fall in line.
  2. Don’t be afraid of the curve - I’d never used the curve tool before in Photoshop and I my self found it really daunting! It’s best to create a new “adjustment” layer for changing lighting, colours etc. That way, you can always go back to edit it, and you can easily show and hide them, and go back to what the original picture looked like, you can also use this to create several adjustment layers, showing or hiding the ones you do or don’t like.
  3. Experiment - The curves tool isn’t the only adjustment tool you can use, play about with hue and saturation as well. Often the best result is achieved when you don’t know what the final product of all of your work will look like, and don’t follow convention, break out of the box! You don’t have to create a gradient mask vertically, it can be horizontally too or even at a slight angel.
  4. Enjoy - I found it easier to listen to music whilst choosing and manipulating my images, whatever gets your creative juices going, do it. Be it gentle masturbation, drinking a warm cup of coffee, strong gin or smoking green do it if it makes you feel creative and think outside the box!

If any one has any comments on this, please feel free! oh yeah, the original tutorial can be found here - Fake Model Photography!
