Non-Consumers / Web 2.0 Junkies
PRESS PLAY BEFORE READING!
Just had a lecture about how the world of media’s changing, with web 2.0, consumers are changing and their demands are changing, and the fact that technology’s moving so so fast. Got me thinking about what I’ve been doing for the past year, and how I’ve had non-consumers pounded into my head by Alex Wright. Suddenly the passive influence of the people around me for the past year have started to come into play on this course, and the respect I have for them has just gone through the roof.
The idea of consumers revolting in this new age when they see something they don’t like has made so many changes, adverts that are crap have parody’s made of them and are ripped the piss out of on blogs, adverts that are so amazing and different like the Cadbury’s gorilla advert, have blogs dedicated to them, facebook groups without marketing agencies even having to seed groups or videos to make them popular and get the word out.
Non-consumers are great, when they see something they like or hate, they make a website about it, or blog it, or digg it. They are the people using “tools” like Blogger, Wordpress, Digg, del.icio.us, twitter, facebook, MySpace and Wikipedia to express their views and opinions, and I’m assuming that this course will give me a better understanding about what makes these “tools” work so well, and appeal to “non-consumers”, how elements of design, IA and User Experience all interlink to make one awesome user experience! 10 Years ago you would have had to of known Front Page (giggles) or old school Dreamweaver and a bit of HTML to be an online publisher, now, as is the case with WordPress and Blogger, it’s all passive, even a 2 year old can do it!
